ANNOUNCEMENTS
Third Quarter is under way! We are almost two weeks in for the new quarter, so may notice there are already some scores (and even grades) for students’ classes.
The process for determining Math Placements for 7th grade has small changes this year. As always, student performance in their math class assessments and on the district “CAR” test are factors to help consider their placement. The slight change is in the “Performance Task” students will complete in class by March 6th; the Performance Task is replacing students’ OAKS Math results as a determining factor. This change is meant to align with the state’s move from using the OAKS Assessments to Smarter Balance Assessments. For more details on this change, please see the attached letter.
In Math we... we are focusing on evaluating and solving algebraic expressions. For the next couple of weeks we will have additional practice with concepts from the following CCSS Content Standards and learning target: 6.EE.Ai – I can evaluate algebraic expressions. Students will be able to apply their knowledge by:
¨ Write and evaluate numerical expressions involving whole number exponents.¨ Solve real-world problems using the order of operations that includes exponents.
We will have homework two days this week. Students will also be completing their next work sample in class and completing their Performance Task for our “CAR” test.
