Week of Sept 29th - October 3rd

Hello fantastic families of Lane Middle School! It was amazing seeing you all this past week at Back to school night! Just a quick shout out to all of the students, they worked extremely hard on their study guide to prepare for our test last Friday, and it showed! They did amazing on their test! This week in Math, we will be finishing up our studies in our first Math book, Primetime, to prepare for our next book Bits and Pieces II. This week students will take what they learned with prime factorization and find the GCF and LCM of two numbers. Learning Target(s): I can find GCFs and LCMs using prime factorization. We will also be focusing on how to write more than just the numerical answer. One area of focus as a Math teacher is that I want to help students really become proficient with Mathematical practice MP3, constructing viable arguments when explaining how you solved an equation. This week students will be learning how to explain their thinking in written form using mathematical vocabulary and visual models to support their thinking. We will be doing a lot of writing this week in Math. We will also be completing our very first work sample this week in class! Homework will be two days this week, and it will be a review of LCM, GCF and Prime factorization. I will give students two days to complete. We will also finish up our work in 6th grade Number Theory on IXL. Students can continue working on the following IXL strands, but they do not have to be finished until the end of next week, October 3rd: 6th Grade Number Theory · N.3 Prime or composite · N.4 Identify factors · N.5 Prime factorization · N.6 Prime factorization with exponents · N.7 Greatest common factor · N.8 Least common multiple · N.9 GCF and LCM: word problems Important Dates: Coming up in October October 10 | Statewide In-Service Day | No School October 15 | 2-Hour Late Opening October 29-31 | Parent - Teacher Conferences | No School
